Schoolyard Politics
Oh for God’s sake! I know the pollies and the Herald Sun both function on the supposition that the voting public is incredibly gullible, but really, apart from electing the Rudd the first time, what did we ever do to make them think we’re THAT stupid?
The Herald-Sun ran a piece on Sunday, darkly entitled Labor’s Election Warning, boasting about how they had an exclusive on a document outlining the ALP’s election strategy against Joe Hockey or Tony Abbot. This apparently based on the ALP strategists assumption that Turnbull won’t hold on to the leadership too much longer.
Ohhhh, cleveeeer! Now Turnbull looks even more impotent, while Hockey and Abbott, if they’re foolish enough to pay any attention to this rubbish, have to reiterate their loyalty to an incompetent and unpopular leader. All of which plays into the only election strategy that labor has – to keep the opposition destabilised so they can’t concentrate on actual policy or genuine political debate.
In the meantime, the ALP can keep talking and talking and talking and saying nothing, while they lounge about in their entrenched position on the high moral ground and sneer down at an opposition in disarray.
Machiavellian manoeuvring? I think not, it reminds me more of Sweet Valley High style manipulations of the Prom Queen vote, with the Herald Sun playing the part of the school newspaper, breathlessly doing the bidding of the prettiest girl in school on the off chance they might get invited to all the cool post-prom skinny-dipping party.
Bleagch! I've spent too much time thinking about this, now I need to take my brain out and wash all the gunk off it again.
