Yes, as well as a new name the Tribune now has a new website.

Any readers who may have visited the old website were probably sniggering a bit at its naive simplicity. No live article links? No search functions? Only updated once a month? Nothing but PDFs of the magazine and a few smart remarks? All over and done with in less than 10 pages? What a pack of luddites!

Well yes, I quite agree, but given our complete absence of any kind of understanding about these things it was the best we could do at the time.

After some pleading, Justin’s uber-cool little brother finally took pity on us and set up the bare bones of a new and properly functioning site for us. He came over and patiently (particularly impressive, given that he had just stopped smoking and we were chaining away) explained how he’d done it. Then he patted our hands and left us to it.

Unsurprisingly, within a week I had completely broken the entire thing and then, while trying to fix it, accidentally and irretrievably deleted a folder of crucial files from the server.

Goodbye kingstribune.com version 1.

So we girded each other’s loins and started again.

Another week of work and we had a fairly functional, but slightly wonky looking website up and working. I’m going to get all biblical again: “Pride goeth before …a fall”. I got overconfident with the success of version 2 and decided that I would be able to fix said wonkiness by mucking about in the backend SQL databases.

Goodbye kingstribune.com version 2.

The ensuing tears and shouting eventually died out and we started again.

The result, dear readers, is kingstribune.com version 3. Still fairly simple, it doesn’t (yet) sing, dance or talk to you. It needs some more pictures and proper search functionality and a few other useless time wasters for the working folk. We’ll be playing around with these things over the next few weeks, so if you happen to drop into the site and get a 404 error message, be patient. I’ve got a full back-up of version 3 and we can roll back to that within….hours….

Please feel free to send the link around to anyone you think might be interested. The more readers we get, the more advertisers we get; the more advertisers we get, the less we have to work at our day jobs and the more we can put out for you, our beloved audience.
