Political Pundit Shows™, a format where so called fucking experts debate the issues of the day, either in a “partisan” or “neutral” bias.

Yeah right. Unlike Drag0nista (who I know is Sallyann Atkinson) I bloody hate these shows, and so should you.

There has been an explosion of PPS in Australia, based on the US model. Meet the Press, Insiders and Q&A (based on a UK show Question Time) now get all the political wonks sexually aroused and bleeting inanities on social media like Twitter.

There is as much truth in these shows as you find in the Liberal Party dunny bowl. The reason is that these pundits only have two types of messages:

What they are willing to say publicly

The truth.

The first option is what gets thrown at the viewers like slops to the piggery. The second option is generally found out when Cabinet papers get released under the 30 year rules.

Take Gillard’s Carbon Tax backflip.

She believed that by promoting the climate change agenda, she was leaving herself exposed to the vitriolic bile being vomited by the Mad Monk.

Yet, when she formed her government, the first thing on the agenda was Carbon Tax.

“Blah blah she backflipped!” scream the conservatives.

Why yes, because she lost the argument when she was forced to gain the Greens support to form government. She lost the argument in convincing the voters that her view was the best. Sucks to be Julia.

Do you think there is any way that Julia will ever admit that?

I can see the headlines now, “Prime Minister admits she has surrendered the Climate Change debate in order to form Government”. While it is the truth, it is something she can never say publicly.

It is not just politics.

The Tobacco companies ranting against plain olive packaging:

Publicly: It will damage the budget bottom line by allowing illegal, untarriffed tobacco into the market.

Privately: We need to keep branding alive to maintain profit margins and support our industry, which is marketing an addictive drug that is killing its market.

The Australian Newspaper:

Publicly: We support the conservative agenda because we are not part of the small L liberal agenda!

Privately: Well the Fox News approach is very profitable, let’s use the only national NEWS CORP platform to give it a go here.

Tony Abbott on asylum seekers:

Publicly: Only Tony Abbott can stop the boats!

Privately: Thank god the flood of boat people died down during the last term of our government.

Bob Brown:

Publicly: I will not engage with News Corp and their biased agenda against the greens.

Privately: Our policies are rather extreme, let’s take the martyr role to stop people finding out.

Even I do it:

Publicly: Muesli eating sandal wearing pedestrians.

Privately: as above with a lot more F bombs.

The whole punditry thing is a pile of shit. Smokescreen. And the good news is that we pay for it via our taxes (with the ABC), or by buying the crap they sling (all networks, including the ABC). We are paying for the brainfuck!

You will never hear the private rationale on the pundit shows. That would lift the veil on the deal making, back stabbing, cock sucking circus where intelligent people are getting conned into believing the shadow puppets and the facts are buried in confidential memos and cabinet papers that are hidden away for 30 years.

So don’t watch Insiders. Go watch Keating! The Musical instead.
